Breast implants are saline- or silicone-filled inserts that are surgically implanted into a patient’s chest area. Breast implants can give small breasts more volume and a more symmetrical look. Today’s implants are proven to be safe, and can effectively improve your appearance.
The breast implant procedure is not undertaken solely to increase breast size. Some women loose one or both of their breasts to cancer, and undertake the implant procedure to reconstruct their breasts. And, some women suffer from breasts that are not symmetrical.
Implants can impart a more youthful appearance to your breasts and to your overall body. Not every patient is eligible for breast implants. Breast Implants: Specifics
During your initial consultation, you and Dr. Schlesinger will discuss the size of implants you desire. Dr. Schlesinger will ensure that you have realistic expectations for implant size, since the size will be limited by your body type and structure. There are two main types of breast implants you can choose: saline or silicone. Dr. Schlesinger will consult with you about the advantages and disadvantages of each to help you to determine the best one for you.
Breast implants are placed during a surgery, and of course the patient is sedated at that time. While you “sleep”, Dr. Schlesinger will make an incision normally in your armpit (the specific placement of the incision will depend on your particular anatomy). These incisions will be inconspicuous once they have healed. Some women have their implants placed over their chest muscles while others have it behind (again, this placement depends on the patient’s body type and also on the desired look). After inserting the breast implants, you will begin your recovery.
Breast Implants: What to Expect
Your surgery results will be immediately visible. You will need to avoid heavy lifting for 2 weeks. Be sure to have purchased new bras and tops since after the surgery, you will no longer be able to wear your smaller sizes.
