For my Hawaii facelift patients, the goal of a facelift is not to change the appearance; it’s to attain a fresher, more rejuvenated one. A youthful glow that melts away the years and brings out the best of features can be achieved when you trust a skilled, board certified plastic surgeon to perform your facelift surgery.
About Facelift Surgery
A facelift, technically called a rhytidectomy (which means the surgical removal of wrinkles), is a surgical procedure wherein excess facial skin and fat are removed and the skin is gently redraped, leaving the patient’s face with a more youthful appearance. A facelift can correct sagging skin and remove wrinkles; the procedure is semi-permanent and the effects are long-term.
Undergoing Facelift Surgery at our Honolulu Practice
For the benefit of my Hawaii facelift patients, I offer a minimal incision facelift. With this method, incisions do not go into the scalp; this is a plus for female patients, as raising the sideburns is not desirable for women.
For male and female patients alike, I normally stay on top of the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) when performing a facelift. There are two reasons for this: 1.) it reduces the risk of injuring nerves, and 2.) it creates more natural looking results. When one sees a facelift patient whose appearance has changed so dramatically that they look like a different person, that is normally the result of a “deep” facelift that is performed below the SMAS – and it’s precisely the reason I don’t offer that method.
Instead, I perform a facelift on two layers, first by lifting the SMAS and internal tissue and sewing it to itself before gently redraping the skin and external tissue. The surgical drains come out after 24 hours, and there are no dressings involved for my Honolulu facelift patients. In many cases, we make house calls to check on our facelift patients; however, most are quite pleased that there is no bruising at all. This is thanks to DMSO, an anti-inflammatory that I apply to every facelift patient at the close of surgery. Patients look younger and more refreshed – not dramatically “different.”
