Patient Testimonials: Praise and Thanks to Dr. Schlesinger

After 20 years of contemplating a breast reduction, I finally had the means, time and emotional strength to face the cost, recovery and major scars of the procedure. My boyfriend was totally against it but for me at a small framed 5’3”, my 32DDs, which were on a race to my knees, were too much for this 41-year-old to bear. I needed to research physicians and proceeded to set up several consultations.

All of the surgeons during my consultations reminded me of the dangers, the loss of nipple sensation, the scars, the long recovery time but only Larry Schlesinger recommended a scarless liposuction breast reduction. Scarless?! Clearly, if there were other physicians in Hawaii who could do this particular procedure, I would have heard about it. I consulted with several surgeons (none of whom mentioned this technique), researched the internet, asked around. Scarless liposuction breast reduction seems to be a staple for many mainland surgeons but not so here in Hawaii.

I was really lucky to consult with Larry Schlesinger. After his evaluation during our consultation he said it would be “inappropriate for me to cut you.” Wow, that was refreshing. I listened to what Dr. Schlesinger had to say about fewer complications, little to no scarring, much shorter recovery time, retaining fully functioning breasts. I looked at before and after photos of the same procedure he performed on others and decided right then that this would be the right way to go for me.

The liposuction breast reduction was performed three weeks later and I could not be happier. Everything he told me came true. My breasts are lighter so my nipples naturally elevated. They have retained a nice, natural shape and are perky. Even my dissenting boyfriend said they look nice. I won’t see complete results for another few months as my body heals completely but if nothing changed after today, I would be satisfied.

This first week after surgery I’m sore, as can be expected, but not nearly as sore as I would have been after a traditional breast reduction. I was able to get off pain meds the same day as the surgery and resumed normal activities, albeit at a slower pace, the very next day, including leisurely walking. I was driving four days after surgery. A week after surgery all of my “sutures” (more like tape) were removed. On my tenth day after surgery I’m going to the gym for a moderate workout and then heading in to the office for work. I could have gone back to work just three days after surgery but stuck to my plan of having a week off. This definitely beats the recommended 14-day work ban and 6-to-8 week exercise ban after a traditional breast reduction.

Larry Schlesinger and his staff are excellent and I highly recommend adding him to the list for at least a consultation. From my very first phone call to his office I was met with professionalism and extreme warmth. Jodie, Dori, Sheri and Larry made me feel like family. My anesthesiologist, surgical nurse and the staff at Surgicare were also top notch and made me feel very comfortable on surgery day. It has been a stellar, uplifting (pun unintended) experience. My results, even as I’m recovering, far exceeded my expectations. I’m extremely grateful to Dr. Schlesinger and his staff and can’t say enough good things about them.

You were able to take away the fatty areas that I could not get rid of with diet and exercise and you completely took away the cellulite! I am writing to tell you how much I appreciate the excellent job you did on my face.

When I was three years old, I was standing in my driveway when one of the neighborhood girls ran me over with her bike. My parents rushed me to E.R. and they put 24 stitches in my nose and forehead. That experience was horrible. Unable to put me under, they made my mother leave, and held me down to sew me up. I will never forget that. I will also never forget going to you to have the stitches redone. You made me laugh and you made sure I was comfortable before you tried to put me under. It was no problem. You put 36 tiny stitches in my face and today it can hardly be seen. Most people don’t even know I have a scar until I show them. I thank you so much for caring and taking the time to give me a beautiful face. I hate to think of what I might look like if my parents hadn’t taken me to you. Thank You.

I also remember every morning on my way to school, waving at you from the school bus while you were jogging. I hope you remember me, but if not, I understand.
