Choose a Surgeon Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery
Choosing to have plastic surgery is an important decision, and so is selecting a plastic surgeon. Whether you're considering cosmetic surgery to improve your appearance or reconstructive surgery to correct defects or improve function, you want a surgeon with the skill and training to help achieve your goals.
You've made the right choice with American Plastic Surgery of Hawaii. We have locations in Maui, Kona and Honolulu. Our surgeons offer credentials you can put your trust in. Our surgeons are board-certified plastic surgeons and have received extensive surgical training in the most rigorous medical specialty programs. Their training uniquely qualifies them to perform plastic surgery on the face and all parts of the body.
In most states, a licensed physician may perform cosmetic procedures without being board-certified in plastic surgery. Just because a doctor is board-certified does not mean he or she is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Many "cosmetic surgeons" list board certification but only the American Board of Plastic Surgery has traditionally overseen the training of Plastic Surgeons.
The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body.
To be ABPS board-certified, a surgeon has met these rigid requirements:
- He or she graduated from an accredited medical school
- He or she completed a combination of at least five years of general surgery and plastic surgery residency training
- He or she passed comprehensive oral and written exams
The surgeon must also regularly attend continuing medical education courses and adhere to a strict code of ethics. You can review the board standing of any of our surgeons by calling the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) at 1-800-776-2378.
